It’s book review time again folks, and this time around we’ve got teen fantasy adventure Half A King by Joe Abercrombie. Don’t forget to stick around til the end of the review too, because there’ll be a competition where you could be in with a chance of winning a copy.

Half a King

When his father and brother are killed, Prince Yarvi, born with only one good hand, inherits the throne of Gettland. He faces betrayal from those closest to him, and begins an adventure that takes him on a journey from slave to adventurer in a quest for revenge. On his way he builds a ragtag band of friends and warriors, as well as finding love.

Aimed at the 15+ market, this epic action adventure is full of twists and turns, and a rich fantasy world full of magic and ancient religions. The tale revolves around how Yarvi, a physical weakling, uses his brains and his wits to overcome his enemies and achieve his goals.

Taking elements of Tolkein, Gladiator and The Lion King, this fast paced, page-turner story deals with betrayal, tradition, honour and revenge with maturity that betrays the target market. It offers a unique take on established quest stories, but doesn’t feel overly clichéd or stale.

Naturally, with a plot full of twists and shocks, it’s nigh on impossible to write a spoiler-free review, all i can say is it’s a damn good read, full of excitement and adventure but you don’t wanna take my word for it, have a look at this awesome trailer…

You can buy a copy (highly recommended) from AMAZON.

If that’s not enough, I’m running a funky competition for you to win a hardback copy of this awesome read. All you have to do is fill in the boxes below to be in with a chance, answering the difficult question and that. The competition ends on Sunday 20th July 2014 at tea-time (BST). UK entrants only.
